How to Change Media Kind in iTunes

Because digital media files come from so many different sources and are shared so frequently, their information can sometimes be incorrect when you load them into iTunes. This includes the designation for "Media Kind," which dictates in what section of the iTunes library a file will be saved. Having the incorrect information can make it difficult to organize your library and impossible to find files you want. However, iTunes lets you edit every file's "Media Kind" to make sure it is exactly where you want it to be.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open iTunes.

    • 2

Locate the media file you want to edit.

    • 3

Right-click on the file title, then select "Get Info" from the drop-down menu. This will open the file's options window.

    • 4

      Click "Options."

    • 5

Click on the box labeled "Media Kind," then select the correct format. You can designate an audio file as Music, Podcast, iTunes U, Audio Book or Voice Memo.
You can define a video file as Music Video, Movie, TV Show, Podcast or iTunes U.

    • 6

Click "OK" to save your settings and close the window.
