How to Disable the Touchpad on a Dell Latitude D630
The touchpad on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop is a square pad just below the keyboard that you run your fingers across to navigate the computer. This can be a convenient feature, but many people like to connect a mouse to their laptops and use that instead of the touchpad. If you'd rather use a mouse than a touchpad, you can disable the pad via the "Mouse Properties" setting.

Turn on the Dell Latitude D630. Click on the "Start" tab in the left corner of the toolbar located at the bottom of the computer screen.

Select "Control Panel" from the list of options in the drop-down menu, and a new window will appear with a new set of options.

Select "Mouse" from the list of options. The "Mouse Properties" window will appear on screen. Click on the "Device Select" tab in the window to disable the touchpad.

Click "Yes" when prompted to confirm, and the touchpad on your Latitude will be disabled.

I also have the same problem with my Latitude D610. There is no Device Selection tab available in the control panels.

Here ya go - don't quite know what these people are talking about... but reboot your PC and immediately hit F2 to go into the setup. Go to "post behavior" then "mouse/touchpad" - and change it from Touchpad/PS-2 to "serial mouse" (I'm using a USB mouse and it works)... the touchpad is disabled after you save this (thank God)! Hope this works for everyone - it did for me!

I called Dell and it is a software problem when you are running windows 7 I beleive. I have a corporate laptop and I'm thinking abut sending it back and having them load Vista. I don't think there's a problerm with that OS. It's absolutely maddening!

I'm having a similar problem. All the instructions I've found say the same thing.But I do not have a Device Selection tab. Under the Hardware tab, I don't even see a touch pad option, just HID-compliant mouse and PS/2 compatible mouse. Maybe it has to do with Windows 7. Are you using that? The only way I've found to circumvent the problem is to plug in a keyboard and use it instead of the one on the laptop. Of course, that means it cannot be used as a laptop. But that's what I do at work.
