How to Add Life to a Car Battery

How to Add Life to a Car Battery thumbnail
Batteryies that do not hold a charge cannot start a vehicle.

An automotive battery that has been unused for a long period or has built up too much sulfate can develop problems that can shorten the battery's life. When batteries get in this condition they generally cannot hold a charge. This means you will need to find a way to add life to the battery. You can do this by repeatedly charging and discharging the battery.

Things You'll Need

  • Battery Life Saver BLS-12/24-B
  • Car battery charger

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the BLS-12/24-B battery life saver (A consumer lead sulfate dissolver designed for automotive lead batteries) and the car battery charger to the automobile battery. Connect the red cables to the positive terminal on the battery and the black cables to the negative terminal on the battery.

    • 2

Wait for the battery to reach a fully charged state. A battery is fully charged when the meter on the car battery charger reads 12 volts.

    • 3

Disconnect the battery charger cables from the battery and leave the BLS-12/24-B lead sulfate dissolver attached for an additional 20 hours.

    • 4

Reconnect the car battery charger when the voltage of the battery is between 9.5 and 10 volts.

    • 5

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the voltage of the battery remains constant with the lead sulfate dissolver attached.

    • 6

Remove the car charger battery cables and the lead sulfate dissolver cables from the battery.

Tips & Warnings

  • The BLS-12/24-B consumer battery life saver helps to dissolve the sulfate crystals that have built up in the battery.

  • The volts on the battery should not go below 9.5 volts with the BLS-12/24-B attached.
