How to Thread a Pricing Gun

Loading a pricing gun with new labels requires threading a strip of labels through some very small spaces. If not done properly, the gun can become jammed and the labels will not dispense properly. With some practice and knowledge, you can confidently thread a new roll of labels through a pricing gun with no frustration.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the price gun in your hand by the handle. Identify the important components of the gun such as the label-roll holder, base cover, printing plate and label wheel or sprocket.

    • 2

Lift the label-roll holder or clip to pull it up from the price-marking gun.

    • 3

Squeeze and pull open the base of the pricing gun. Some pricing guns also have a base plate you open by pressing the base-open key, resembling a small button, on the side of the gun.

    • 4

Remove enough labels from the new label roll to leave about 6 to 10 inches of smooth paper on the roll. Cut or carefully tear off a clean edge to make threading easier.

    • 5

Load the new label roll onto the label clip with the printed side of the labels facing up. The labels should roll off of the top.

    • 6

Thread the end of the new label roll down between the rollers of the gun until it comes out at the base. If there is a printing plate, carefully thread the labels up through it. You may need to cut or tear the edge again to get a clean edge to make it pass through more easily. Snap the base back into place.

    • 7

Pull the labels out towards the handle and make sure the holes in the labels line up with the holes on the wheel and that they engage the knobs on the wheel. Close the base plate cover.
