How to Make a Bait Alarm
Like recreational hunting, fishing had its start at a means for food attainment. In the modern day of the supermarket, fishing isn't as much a necessity as it is a way to slow down and relax. Known for long periods of waiting, fishing is often accompanied by a good book, conversation partner or refreshing nap. This simple bait alarm will give you the freedom to distract yourself while alerting you to a fish nibbling at your bait.

1
Attach your small bell to the clothespin with string. Make sure that the bell is tight against the clothespin; a loose bell may jingle in the breeze.
-
2
Insert the non-forked end of the stick into the ground. The stick needs to be approximately 1-inch-thick and the fork should be 2 feet above the ground.

-
3
Cast your fishing lure into the water and rest the pole on the forked stick. The base of the pole should sit on the ground, allowing the fork to cradle the pole.
-
4
Clip the clothespin to the line just above the reel. The light weight of the clothespin will not pull in the bait, but the attached bell will jingle when a fish pulls out the line.

Tips & Warnings
If you are fishing for larger species, you may want to tie the pole to your ankle or wrist with some string so it doesn't get pulled into the water by your hungry prey.
