How to Transfer Digital Pictures to a Portable Storage Device
Whether you are sharing your digital pictures or backing them up in the event your computer crashes, you will need some way to store them. A popular choice is a portable hard drive, which allows you to both back them up while being able to carry them with you to share with family and friends. Transferring your pictures from your computer to portable hard drive is simple.

Connect the USB end of your portable hard drive or flash drive into an available USB port on your computer.

Navigate to the folder containing the digital pictures that you want to transfer.

Copy the pictures you wish to transfer by selecting them by clicking and dragging around the files. Next, right-click on the selection and select "Copy" from the resulting menu.

Navigate to "My Computer" to access the USB flash drive or portable hard drive directly. Click on the icon associated with the drive. Some computers may autoplay the USB drive once it has been plugged in. You can access the drive this way by selecting the "Open folder to view files" option.

Right click in the folder that appears and click "Paste" to begin the transfer process. Once the transfer has completed, be sure to eject the USB flash drive before removing it from your computer. You can do so by right-clicking on the drive icon and selecting "Eject" from the resulting menu.
