How to Configure a Linksys Modem to an Axis Wireless Camera

Axis security protects the home from vandalism.

Axis is a manufacturer of camera equipment that can be used on a network. The cameras are placed anywhere in the home or office, and use wireless communication to connect to a Linksys router. Many Linksys routers are configured with DHCP, which is a dynamic host protocol used to assign IP addresses. For the Axis camera to work properly, it requires a static IP address. Therefore, the Linksys router needs to be configured with a static IP for the camera to enable administrators to access the camera from anywhere on the network.

Instructions

1. Open your web browser and enter the IP address for the Linksys modem in the navigation text box. The default router IP address is 192.168.1.1.

2. Enter the administrator user name and password when prompted. A Linksys router is shipped with a default blank administrator user name and the password is "admin."

3. Click the "Setup" tab, which is also the default tab displayed when you log into the router console. View the range for dynamic IP addresses. By default, the router reserves IP ranges from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150 for the machines on your network.

4. Program the Axis camera with an IP address outside of the reserved dynamic range. This means that the camera can use the static IP address of 192.168.1.2 without interfering with the dynamically assigned IP addresses for your machines. If all IP addresses are used for dynamic assignment, decrement the range by one value. The trailing IP address value can be used for your Axis camera.

5. Click the "Save" button to save your changes. No further configurations are needed for the router. Once the IP address is set up on the camera, you can access it through your wireless Linksys router.
