How to Design a Roman Style Pool
Because a Roman style pool is a specific style, designing one for your back yard is straightforward with few design options. Work within the design parameters, and you can draw up the plan for your Roman style pool that a pool builder can install. Of course, if you deviate too much from the basic design, your design will no longer be a Roman style pool. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Start your design with a rectangular pool. Classically, the corners of a Roman style pool are rounded, but as a variation on your design, you could leave the corners square.
-
2
Add in half-circle additions to one or both ends of the pool. The half-circle additions do not span the full length of the pool's shorter sides, but only cover part of the end, leaving the corner sections intact. If you add a half-circle to one end, then you are using a Roman courtyard style. For the full Roman style, you would add the half-circles to both ends.
In one of these half-circles, you can add in water jets and make the extension a spa. In the other, you can have a shallow sitting end or use the area for steps into the pool.

Optionally, add on a small square along one of the longer sides of the pool. As with the rounded ends, the square can be used as a jacuzzi, a shallow sitting area or for steps entering the pool.

Line the edge of the pool with decorative tiles or stone.
