How to Fix a JVC DVD Recorder That Will Not Play a DVD

How to Fix a JVC DVD Recorder That Will Not Play a DVD thumbnail
Get the DVD recorder going.

The JVC digital DVD recorder allows you to record content from the television (much like a DVR or VCR) and then burn the content onto a DVD. In theory, the DVD recorder should also play standard DVD movies; however, you may run into some issues at some point where the JVC equipment does not respond to the inserted movies. There are a few different troubleshooting steps to correct this issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Eject" button and remove your DVD movie from the DVD recorder. Do not play self-made DVDs unless they are made by the JVC recorder. DVDs made in a computer may not function at all in the device.

    • 2

Power down the JVC recorder and let it stay off for a few minutes. Press the "Power" button again to power it back on.

    • 3

Press the "DVD Video" button on the side of the recorder. This changes the function from record to video playback. This process often takes a while, so wait. A display on the screen scrolls from left to right, showing the progress. Once the scroll reaches the right side, the recorder is set to the DVD playback mode.

    • 4

Insert the DVD movie and close the tray to the DVD drive. Wait for the DVD device to read the disk. This can often take a few minutes but eventually it does load the movie. This is a standard feature and there isn't anything you can do about the wait time.

    • 5

Press "Play" and the movie begins.
