Update your cable television outlet.

So you want to replace your cable television outlet. Many homes have their cable television installed through wall plates that look like light switches or power outlets for looks, even though this does degrade the signal somewhat. The other downside to these outlets is they stick out of the wall and become easily snagged and broken. However it is possible to replace them, even if you're not an electronics genius.

Step 1

Disconnect any wire leading to the outlet, if necessary. Do this by unscrewing the end until the wire comes free.

Step 2

Remove the plate. Use your screwdriver for this; remove both screws. If the plate doesn't come free, pry it off from underneath.

Step 3

Unscrew the cable connector. On the other side of your outlet is a coaxial cable, the same that you had on the front. It can be hard to grip this as it is a small piece, so you may want to use pliers to twist the end free.

Step 4

Install the new cable connector. Insert the pin from the coaxial cable inside the wall and twist until tight. Use the pliers to get it even tighter; try to rotate it an extra quarter turn.

Step 5

Push the cable connector through your new wall plate, then secure the plate to the wall with the screws.

Step 6

Reconnect your cable wire.
