Some car dome lights can be simple to replace. All you need to do is pop open the cover and remove the bulb. The 2006 Volkswagen Jetta is slightly more involved. If you pull from the wrong side, the cover won't come out. Once you know the proper steps, replacing the dome light is easy enough to do yourself. Be sure to order the matching bulb replacement from a reputable parts dealer. The 2006 Jetta uses bulb number 6411.

Instructions

    • 1

      Insert a flat head screwdriver into the left side of the dome light cover. Push in, and then pry the cover until it pops out.

      Pull the unit out until you see the wire connected. Press down on the side of the plastic on the wire clip to detach the cover unit.

      Turn the cover unit over and place your thumbs on the center piece. Slide out the center plastic piece.

      Reach inside and pull out the bulb.

    • 5

      Insert a new bulb. You will need dome light bulb number 6411.

    • 6

      Re-attach the plastic piece and connect the unit back to the car.
