How to Remove Beet Stains on Linoleum

How to Remove Beet Stains on Linoleum thumbnail
Linoleum flooring requires special cleaning techniques.

Linoleum as a flooring material is extremely durable. Therefore, many prefer linoleum flooring above other types of flooring. These floors can withstand much traffic and dirt over time without showing any signs of wear and tear. However, linoleum is made out of natural products and therefore it has a tendency to absorb water-based substances. This can easily lead to stains caused by hard water and dark liquids such as beet juice. Getting these stains out can be a bit tricky since water is not a good cleaning medium for linoleum. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. For light or new beet stains

    • 1

Check on the extent of the beet stain. If it is a fresh one, use a cloth to remove as much liquid as you can. If it has dried up, vacuum over the area to dislodge any dirt or grime.

    • 2

Mix the prescribed proportion of linoleum floor cleaner with water. Dip a cloth into the solution and go over the stain gently. For light stains, this will do the trick. Use a dry cloth to wipe away excess moisture and let the floor dry naturally.

    • 3

Do powerful scrubbing with a non-abrasive cloth on slightly tougher beet stains. This will help scour the stain away without damaging the floor.

    For tough beet stains

    • 4

Mix a little detergent powder in water for stubborn stains. Dip a cloth in the solution and rub gently over the stain.

    • 5

Leave this mix on the stain for a few minutes. Rinse the spot with a cloth dipped in clean water.

    • 6

Wipe the floor again with a clean dry cloth and then leave the floor to dry completely.

    For stubborn beet stains

    • 7

Use the process of wax stripping for those stains that have failed to come up with the above methods.

    • 8

Strip the area of wax as prescribed on the box.

    • 9

Mix together vinegar and water and spray on the spot. Wipe the stain clean with a damp cloth. Wipe the area with a dry cloth.

    • 10

Once the area is completely dry, re-wax the floor.

    • 11

Use a nylon brush to clean stubborn stains as an alternative to the vinegar and water method. Once the beet stain is gone, clean the area regularly and wax it again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Polish floors regularly to prevent accumulation of dirt and grime. This will also prevent stains from occurring on floors.

  • Do not let detergent water or any liquid sit on linoleum for too long. The water could be absorbed by the floor and it could damage your linoleum flooring.
