The true origins of Jiu-Jitsu cannot be traced, however, there are records dating back more than 2,500 years. Jiu-Jitsu is not a unified martial art and there are several branches in existence today. Log onto a Jiu-Jitsu website and study the techniques given. Many websites show you step-by-step pictures of how to implement a move. There are several websites to choose from, including learnbjjtechniques.com and JiuJitsuUnleashed.com.

Use the videos available on the websites to learn the motions after studying the pictures. The videos will give you an idea of how the body moves and how quickly to perform a movement that the pictures and diagrams cannot. Most sites will have both a picture and video section.

Purchase and download a Jiu-Jitsu eBook. They are available from several websites such as Amazon, ebook and E-Book. Be sure to purchase an eBook that correlates to the style of Jiu-Jitsu you wish to learn. Some good Jiu-Jitsu eBooks are Brazililan Jiu Jitsu Basics Vol. 1, The Secret of Jiu Jitsu and the Complete Book of Jiu Jitsu.
