How to Convert Recessed Lights to Mini Pendant Lights
Miniature pendant lights are a popular style in kitchens. Often pendants are used to draw light down from the ceiling. A good place to hang pendant lights is over island and peninsula areas, where there is a bar section that allows people to sit and eat. When considering installing a miniature pendant light, look for styles that will not interrupt the view or block people from having conversations across the bar. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn off the electricity to your kitchen lights at your electrical panel. Check at the light switch before doing any work. It is often a good idea to tape a sign over the electrical panel to warn other people in the home that work is being done.
-
2
Position a tall ladder close to the recessed can. Some recessed cans have trim that is screwed on. Remove this outer trim ring if the ring is wider than the ceiling flange on your new fixture. Often the new fixture will simply cover the trim ring.

3
Use a dry towel to unscrew the recessed can light.

4
Insert the pendant light converter into the recessed can light and screw it in. Slide the trim flange up to the ceiling. You may need to adjust the length of your pendant drop. This is often a loop in the wire that is hidden by the flange. When you are satisfied, screw the flange nut into place.

5
Attach your pendant shade and light bulb. Turn on your power and test your new fixture.

Tips & Warnings
Different styles of shades have various ways to access the bulbs. If your mini-pendant light is very narrow, you may need to unscrew the top nut and slide the lamp shade up the wire to reveal the area where you screw in the bulb.
