How to Ping a Mac Website

How to Ping a Mac Website thumbnail
The idea of pinging was inspired by sonar.

When you "ping" a website or IP address, you are transmitting a packet of information to the address and waiting to receive a reply. You can troubleshoot Internet connections by pinging website and IP addresses to confirm they are responding properly. While many believe that "ping" is a shorthand version of Packet Internet Groper, Mike Muuss, the author of the ping program says, "I named it after the sound that a sonar makes, inspired by the whole principle of echo-location."

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Go" menu of the Finder and highlight "Utilities."
