How to View DMG Files
The DMG file is a Mac OS X image file (replacing the old .IMG image file format), most commonly used to install applications. The image file can be burned to a disc or mounted as a regular drive. The files are unusable on Windows-based machines. Due to the DMG being a native Mac OS X file format, accessing and viewing the files within is extremely easy and straightforward.
Instructions

1
Open the folder containing the .dmg file.
-
2
Double-click the .dmg file or right-click (control-click) and select "Open With Disk Image Mounter." A small window with a progress bar will appear, as the system verifies and mounts the disk image.

3
Open a Finder window. The DMG file will be mounted in the Finder's sidebar beneath the "Devices" header along with the rest of your mounted drives (Macintosh HD, iDisk, USB drives). Highlight the mounted volume in the sidebar. This will reveal the files within the image file. If the DMG contains an application, you can simply drag the application to your "Applications" folder to install. Double-click any files within the DMG to open them directly off the mounted volume.
