How to Troubleshoot Code 10 on the DVD-ROM of a Laptop thumbnail
Fix your DVD-ROM problems.

Error Code 10 on a computer, whether it is for a DVD-ROM or a USB flash drive, means the device cannot start. This is due to the controllers for the devices no longer being present on the computer. Typically this occurs when running a registry sweep on the computer and the controller for the DVD-ROM is believed to be an unused file. This issue can be corrected through a few troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button on the desktop, then select "Control Panel." In the Control Panel window double-click "System" and click the "Hardware" tab.

    • 2

Select "Device Manager" and look for the DVD-ROM device.

    • 3

Right-click the DVD-ROM icon and select "Uninstall." This removes the controllers for the DVD-ROM.

    • 4

Restart the computer. Once the computer restarts it automatically installs the controllers for the DVD-ROM. This corrects the Error Code 10 issue.
