Instructions

    • 1

Choose an online store that allows shoppers to pay via credit card. The most popular credit cards include American Express, Discover, Visa and Mastercard. There are several others you can choose from, but the four mentioned here are the most widely accepted.

    • 2

Select the items you wish to purchase and include them in your "shopping cart." Make sure that the items are not worth more than your credit card limit. When you are directed to the checkout screen, provide the required personal information, which includes your full name, shipping and billing address.

    • 3

Key-in your credit card number, the expiration date and (usually) the security code. If you are using Visa, Mastercard or Discover, the security code is a 3-digit number usually found at the back of the card by the signature line. For American Express users, however, the security code consists of four digits. Submit the credit card information and wait for the process to complete.

If you would rather use your PayPal account, make sure that your balance is sufficient to cover all the expenses. When you are asked to choose the "mode of payment" during the checkout process, select "Pay with PayPal."

    • 5

Log in using your email and password, then hit "Submit" to confirm your action. As soon as you are done, your order will be completed and the amount is automatically deducted from your PayPal balance.

Pay using your bank checking account if you do not have a PayPal account or credit card. You'll be asked for your bank account and routing numbers. Look at one of your paper checks if you're not sure of your numbers. The nine-digit routing number is in the lower left corner of the check. The account number is also located on the bottom of the check, to the right of the routing number. Double-check your account statement if you're not sure what your account number is.

Tips & Warnings

  • When using your PayPal account, always double-check the URL of the website to make sure that you are logged in at the genuine PayPal website and not with other fake "PayPal" sites. These sites can steal personal information from you and, worse, steal your PayPal balance.

  • Always make sure that the sites you are purchasing items from are reputable, safe and secured. Also, delete credit card information saved in your computer to avoid unauthorized usage. Never use a public computer to pay for anything online.
