How to Remove Mobile Home Door Hinges thumbnail
Mobile home door hinges can be changed just like other hinges.

Removing a mobile home door on modern mobile homes is similar to removing hinges on site-built homes. You might have to do this when you change the look of your home. For example, if you change your light-switch plates and outlet plates, you might want the hinge to look the same. When doing this project, you will need someone to help you remove the door, as mobile home doors are heavy and bulky. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Stand on the side of the door where you can see the hinge pin. On exterior doors, this usually is on the inside. On interior doors, this usually is inside the room that the door leads to.

    • 2

Close the door to make the hinge fully accessible, then secure the door to keep it from moving.

    • 3

Place a chisel or flat-head screwdriver between the hinge-pin head and the hinge of the bottom hinge.

    • 4

Tap the chisel or screwdriver with a hammer to knock the hinge pin out of the hinge.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 on the upper hinge and then the middle hinge. In some cases, the door will have only an upper and lower hinge.

    • 6

Remove the door from the hinges once all the pins are out. This is when you need a helper.

    • 7

Unscrew the screws that hold the hinges to the door frame. In most cases, these will be Phillips-head screws.

    • 8

Use a flat-head screwdriver to pull the hinge away from the wall if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Older mobile homes have hinges that are built as part of the door frames. To remove these, you must remove the entire door frame by prying it off of the wall with a chisel.
