How to Make a Pellet Rifle

Pellet rifles, also known as BB rifles, have an advantage over handguns as the longer barrel allows for firing the projectile a greater distance with better accuracy. Make your own pellet rifle from a few parts from a hardware store and some tools found around most households; it will take about two hours. Your pellet rifle may not be mistaken for the real thing, but it will be able to fire a projectile without gunpowder.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the newspaper down on a table. Place the wooden dowel down on the table horizontally. Hot-glue the PVC pipe to the wooden dowel so that the ends on each side line up. Let the hot glue set for a minute or two.

    • 2

Put the toy cap gun down on the newspaper. Grab hold of the barrel with the pliers. Insert the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver between the cylinder in the center of the toy cap gun and the frame holding it. Wiggle the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver to separate the cylinder from the center of the toy cap gun. Put the cylinder down on the newspaper. Discard the rest of the toy cap gun.

    • 3

Hammer a hole through the center of the cylinder with a nail.

    • 4

Place the cylinder against one end of the wooden dowel. Line up one of the holes circling the cylinder with the end of the PVC pipe that is above the wooden dowel. Hammer the nail through the hole in the cylinder and into the wooden dowel.

    • 5

Hold the clothespin with the jaws facing upwards. Hot-glue the clothespin against the cylinder. Let the hot glue set for a minute or two.

    • 6

Pull back on the clothespin. Place a BB into the hole in the cylinder that is lined up with the PVC pipe. Place a cap gun cap into the hole. Gently release the clothespin.

    • 7

Aim your pellet rifle at a target in the backyard; for example, the side of a building or a tree.

    • 8

Pull back on the clothespin. Release the clothespin to fire off your pellet rile and shoot a BB at the target.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear protective goggles to protect your eyes when firing a pellet rifle.

  • Never aim a pellet rifle at any living thing--the projectile can cause serious harm.
