Look online for breeders of the miniature animals you desire (see Resources).

Call the breeder and ask questions about shots, cost of animal, age and lineage papers.

Get at least one reference of a satisfied customer and call that customer to see if they are truly happy with their purchase.

Visit the breeder and examine the facilities and animals. Make sure the facility is clean and that the animals are well taken care of. Notice if the animals are lively and vibrant or sluggish and sleepy.

Choose your animal and exchange money with the breeder.

Find a vet in your area that specializes in exotic breeds of animals. Take your miniature animal to the vet for a checkup shortly after obtaining him.
Miniature animals have different needs than their larger counterparts. Be sure to get a book about caring for your miniature pet and ask your vet for advice as well.
