1
Check that the Dell laptop battery is installed. Turn off the laptop and disconnect it from its power source. Flip the laptop over. Some models have the battery visible as part of the laptop's undercarriage, while others require you to remove a plastic panel to see the battery. If you're unsure, consult your product-specific manual.

2
Remove the battery. On most Dell laptops, the battery is removed by sliding the battery away from the laptop body at an angle. Inspect the metal elements on the end of the battery. Batteries with corroded, missing or bent elements may need to be replaced with a new laptop battery from Dell's official store (888-364-6022).

3
Reinsert the battery into the laptop's undercarriage. Make sure the battery is oriented properly so that its metal elements are in contact with the metal elements inside the laptop. An improperly inserted battery will not function.
-
4
Connect the Dell laptop to a power source using its included AC adapter cable. Check that the cable is powered; its indicator light, positioned either on the AC adapter block or on the plug that enters the computer, should be glowing.
-
5
Turn the Dell laptop back on. Double-click the battery icon in the Windows taskbar, located on the bottom right corner of the screen. A new window will appear. Choose "Portable/Laptop" from the drop-down menu to turn on power management. This may resolve issues with the battery being drained faster than normal. Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings
If you can't resolve your laptop battery problems, contact Dell's 24-hour support line at 877-293-1197.
Usage practices may affect battery performance. Over time, a Dell laptop's battery life will decrease. Life expectancy varies according to the battery technology and how often you use it. Additionally, running processor-intensive programs like video games may drain the battery longer. That is also the case with connecting numerous peripheral devices such as a USB mouse.
Never use a laptop battery not sold by Dell. Such products may not be compatible with your specific laptop model and may pose a fire hazard.
