How to Set Up an Internet Connection With Microsoft Internet Explorer & Roadrunner
Road Runner provides High Speed Internet service by using cable lines instead of the telephone lines that are traditionally used for DSL. Once you have subscribed to the Road Runner high speed service, you will receive the hardware and software that is needed to get your connection up and running. You can use the connection with any browser you choose, including Internet Explorer.

- CAT5 cable

Ensure that there is an Ethernet adapter installed on your computer. To check this, open your computer's "Control Panel." Click "Device Manager." Look underneath the "Adapters" section to see if an Ethernet adapter is listed. If one is not listed, you can purchase one from your local computer retailer.

Locate the round coaxial cable that came with your cable modem kit. Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the cable jack that is on the wall. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the round cable connection that is on the back of the modem.

Locate the CAT5 Ethernet cable that came with your modem kit. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port that is on the back of your computer. Connect the other end of the cable to the "Ethernet" port that is on the back of the cable modem.

Plug one end of the power cord into the back of the cable modem. Plug the pronged end into the nearest electrical outlet or surge protector.

Power on your cable modem and computer. Wait for the lights on your modem to gain sync.

Insert the Road Runner "Self-Connect" software CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer. The software will automatically install.

Open your Internet Explorer browser. Click "Tools" and "Internet Options." Select the "Connections" tab.

Select the option to "Never Dial A Connection." Click "Apply."

Click the "General" tab. Type "http://www.rr.com" into the "Home Page" box that is located at the top of the page. Click "Apply" and "OK." This will set Road Runner as your homepage. If you don't want Road Runner as your homepage, you can use any web address you like as your home page.
