How to Troubleshoot a Western Digital 500GB Hard Drive
It is easy to run out of storage space on a computer, which is why you may want to add a Western Digital 500GB hard drive to the system. Doing so can give you an increased storage capacity beyond what you are currently running; however, you may encounter problems that prevent the computer from writing and reading content on the hard disk.

1
Check the connection between the Western Digital hard drive and the computer (if you are using an external hard drive). Make sure the cable is connected completely into both the hard drive and the computer.
-
2
Install any driver that came with the hard drive. Although most external hard drives are plug-n-play (meaning you can use the hard drive as soon as you connect it to the computer), it is important to install the driver for internal hard drives. If you no longer have the installation CD, you can download the driver from the Western Digital website.

Check the system requirements to make sure your computer's operating system can actually use the Western Digital 500GB hard drive. On the packaging of the hard drive it states the operating system that can be used, including the version. If you are running an old version of Windows, the computer may not be able to run the new Western Digital hard drive.
