How to Upgrade Microsoft Office Pro 97 to Office 2003

Upgrade to Microsoft Office 2003.

The Microsoft Office suite of productivity products includes many of the world's most popular business applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. Though similar to previous versions, the 2003 release of Office includes several helpful new features, including a revised Outlook interface, common task panes and the new InfoPath application. The Office 2003 installation program offers step-by-step instructions to help make the upgrade process easy to understand for users of all skill levels.

Instructions

1. Insert the first Office 2003 installation CD into your disc drive.

2. Enter your 25-character product key in the corresponding fields. This key is found on a yellow sticker affixed to the back of the Office 2003 CD case.

3. Enter your username, initials and organization name in the corresponding fields and click "Next."

4. Check the box labeled "I accept the terms in the License Agreement" and click "Next."

5. Select the option labeled "Upgrade" when the "Type of Installation" setup screen appears and click "Next." Click the "Browse" button to select an alternate installation directory before clicking "Next" if your needs require it.

6. Choose your upgrade preferences. By default, the "Remove all previous versions" option will be selected. If you want to upgrade only selected Office components, choose "Remove only the following application(s)" and select the programs you want to remove.

7. Click "Install" when the "Summary" screen appears to begin the installation of your selected programs. Depending on the programs you chose to install, you may be prompted to remove the first Office 2003 installation CD and replace it with another installation disc.

8. Select the "Check the Web for updates and additional downloads" and "Delete installation files" options on the "Setup Completed" screen unless your needs specifically dictate otherwise. Click "Finish."

9. Open any Office 2003 application.

10. Select the "I want to activate the software over the Internet" option and click "Next" when the Activation Wizard appears on-screen.

11. Click "Close" after the activation process completes. Your Office 2003 products are ready to use.
