Satellite TV is an alternative to cable.

DirecTV is a satellite television alternative to cable television service, which includes an installed satellite dish. In order to maintain the best signal possible, you can do a few things to improve your reception and prevent the stations you're watching from fuzzing out (although in storms and bad weather, this isn't always possible to accomplish).

Instructions

    • 1

Check the connection running from the cable receiver box to your TV. Make sure the cables are completely inserted into both ends. If the cables are loose, your reception may be poor, and both the audio and video can appear distorted.

    • 2

Clear off the satellite dish if there is a lot of snow on it. Snow can block the dish from receiving any signals at all.

    • 3

Cut away tree branches and other items from around the satellite dish. Tree branches that sway in the wind can interrupt the signal to the DirecTV dish.

    • 4

Contact DirecTV and have the company send out a satellite technician to realign the satellite dish. After a few years of wind and storms, the dish may become pushed out of alignment with the satellite, causing you to lose stations.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when removing snow or tree branches. If you are not comfortable doing this, you may want to contact a professional to clear a path around the dish.
