How to Fix an Inverted Computer Screen

How to Fix an Inverted Computer Screen thumbnail
You can fix an inverted screen on Windows and OS X.

Both OS X and Windows have inversion options for their displays. Their meanings, on the other hand, differ with the operating system. An inverted display on Windows refers to the display actually being upside down, while an inverted display on the Mac refers to the colors being inverted. Either way, these options can hinder the use of your computer, for obvious reasons. Luckily, an inverted screen can be fixed quickly, on both Windows and OS X.

Instructions

  1. On Windows

    • 1

Right click on the Desktop and select "Properties." Click the "Settings" tab and then select "Advanced."

    • 2

Click the "Driver" tab and then "Graphics Properties."

    • 3

Press "Display Settings" and uncheck the "Enable rotation" option. Click "Apply" and then "OK."

    On Mac OS X

    • 4

Click the Apple logo in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Scroll down and select "System Preferences."

    • 5

Select "Universal Access" and click on the "Seeing" tab.

    • 6

Check the "Black on white" option and the display should return to normal. Close System Preferences to save the changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • To quickly toggle the inversion settings on a Mac, simply press Command+Option+Shift+8.

  • Trying to fix an inverted screen in Windows is difficult, especially with the amount of clicks it takes. If you want to skip the complications, merely hold Control+Alt and then press the "up arrow" key. This key combo only works in Windows XP, so if you have a different version, you will need to follow the normal process of righting the screen.
