How to Get Rid of Wasps in Your House

Wasps are unwelcome in the garden, and even more unwelcome in the house.

Wasps are very large and relatively intimidating. The fact they sting makes the situation even riskier. Although many wasps are peaceful and just want to go on their way, they are an unwelcome addition to a garden or lawn. They are even more unwelcome in the house. Bees, wasps and bugs seem to get into houses consistently, though, and can be a problem to eliminate. If you have wasps in your house, get rid of them. Then find their nest and get rid of that as well.

Things You'll Need

• Wasp traps
• Broom
• Pesticide

Instructions

1. Set traps to eliminate free-flying wasps in the house. Wasp traps work like fly traps, with a sticky substance that attracts and traps. This will keep you from chasing them through the house, and make them easier to kill.

2. Find the nest. This is where they settle for the night, so purge this and you will permanently eliminate this particular group. Look for mud or paper-like nests high up on walls, in corners,and in eaves of houses or sheds.

3. Spray a wasp-specific pesticide on the nest like PT Wasp and Hornet Killer until it's soaked. The best time to do this treatment is at night, when wasps are likely to be in the nest sleeping. The pesticide will kill any inhabitants. Allow the pesticide to work for an hour.

4. Knock the nest down with a broom. Crush and destroy it, and kill any remaining insects inside. Put the nest into a plastic bag, tie it up and discardt. This eliminates the "home base" for any remaining wasps.

Tips & Warnings

• Cold weather makes wasps sluggish. This makes it easier for you to safely approach and kill them.

• Wasp stings are sharp, and can cause an allergic reaction in some people.
