Instructions for Making Sachets
Sachets are handy items for freshening a linen closet or dresser drawer. While you can purchase scented sachets pre-made, they can be made easily and quickly by hand. This project is ideal for making a large number of items to give as gifts or party favors. You can also make your own sachets for home use. Experiment with different colors of fabric and various potpourri scents to create one-of-a-kind products for yourself, friends and family.

1
Locate a few scraps of fabric. This can be extra fabric from another sewing project, a worn shirt or even a set of sheets or pillowcases you no longer want. You will only need a small amount of fabric for each sachet, and a set of sachets in various colors and patterns makes an eye catching gift.
-
2
Cut the fabric into rectangles measuring five inches by 10 inches, for five inch square sachets.
-
-
3
Fold your fabric rectangle in half, with the outside of the fabric facing inward. Sew two sides of the fabric closed.
-
4
Turn the sachet inside out to make a pocket. Fill the pocket with potpourri. Rose, lavender and vanilla are popular scents. You can also fill the sachet with dried flowers to make your own potpourri.
-
5
Sew the last side of the sachet shut. Repeat steps two through five to make additional sachets. For an attractive gift, tie four or five sachets together with ribbon to make a set.
