How to Convert Glass Slides to CD
Glass slides go back as far as the 17th century. In 1850, two brothers invented a way to produce a positive, photographic, transparent image on glass. These came to be known as magic lantern slides. If you have glass slides whose images you'd like to digitalize and burn to CD, a few relatively easy ways exist.

- Scanner with transparency head
- Light box
- Digital camera
- CD burning program
- Blank CD

Insert the glass slide into a flatbed scanner with a transparency head. Scan at the highest resolution and save the scan to the computer hard drive.

Place the individual glass slides on a light table. A light table is a translucent surface with a light behind it. When the slides are placed on the surface, the image is illuminated. Photograph the image with a digital camera. Transfer the images from the photo stick to the computer hard drive.

Hold the glass slides, one at a time, against a window so daylight shines through. Photograph the images with a digital camera. Save the digital images to the computer hard drive.

Place a blank CD in the CD burner of the computer. Open the CD burning software program and select the digital images of the glass slides to be burned to the CD.

Tips & Warnings
Check the digital images before burning them to CD. If they need any touching up, use a photo-editing program to clean up the images.
Handle glass slides only by their edges so as not to get oil or dirt on the surface of the slides. Antique glass slides are collectible, so handle them accordingly to protect their value.
