How to Connect Speedtouch DSL Modems
SpeedTouch DSL modems provide high-speed Internet to homes, businesses and schools. These broadband connectivity devices have a distinct installation protocol that must be followed carefully for the DSL modems to work properly. Your SpeedTouch DSL modem package contains every material you need to get started, namely the device itself, necessary cables and an installation CD.

1
Sign up for DSL Internet service if you have not already done so. Gather your connection information--such as your user account and connection method (PPPoE or PPPoA)--from the Internet Service Provider (ISP). Ask a customer service or technical support representative from your ISP if you are not sure.

2
Install the SpeedTouch software included in your modem package. Insert the SpeedTouch installation CD into your CD-ROM drive and follow the setup wizard's instructions. You will be prompted when to connect your SpeedTouch DSL modem's cables and power supply piece by piece throughout the wizard.

3
Connect your DSL splitter if you need to share your phone line with your telephone when prompted. Remove the telephone cord from the telephone jack. Insert the DSL splitter into the telephone jack. Insert the telephone cord into the jack on the splitter marked "Telephone" or "Tel." Insert one end of the SpeedTouch DSL cable into the jack on the splitter marked "DSL." Insert the other end into the DSL port on the SpeedTouch modem.

4
Insert one end of an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port marked "LAN" or "Ethernet" on the SpeedTouch DSL modem.
-
5
Connect the SpeedTouch DSL modem to power. Either insert its AC power cord into an outlet, or connect its USB power source to an available USB port on your computer or hub.
-
6
Specify whether your ISP connects through PPPoE or PPPoA based on your findings from Step 1. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. Click "OK" or "Finish" to complete the setup wizard.
