How to Make a Dog Comfortable After Surgery
After surgery, dogs require special care in order to remain at ease and experience minimal discomfort during the healing process. If your beloved canine has just undergone a surgical procedure, you will likely find him disoriented and listless for at least a week, so make sure to remain attentive and meet all of his postsurgery needs.

1
Set up a soft, comfortable place on the floor for the dog to sleep. In the first few days following surgery, your dog must not jump onto couches or beds, and so you should arrange plenty of soft blankets and pillows in a spot where your dog can easily lie down and rest at any time.

2
Follow your veterinarian's instructions for administering medications and antibiotics. Your vet knows best how much medication to administer to ensure that your dog recovers quickly with minimal pain.

3
Spend plenty of time with the dog. She will suffer some degree of confusion and discomfort following the procedure, so give her plenty of love and affection in order to remind her that she's safe at home with people who care for her. Dogs respond very positively to this type of affirmation even amid painful situations.

4
Moisten your dog's food. If he eats primarily dry food, you can moisten it by adding warm water to it and allowing the food to absorb it. This will make consumption and digestion much easier as your dog recovers.

Tips & Warnings
Place an e-collar, sometimes referred to as a cone or satellite, on your dog if he has stitches in a place that he can reach with his mouth. This will spare your dog an incredible amount of pain, since he will otherwise try to remove his stitches if he can.
