How to Learn Chinese Juggling Sticks

Chinese juggling sticks are a set of three sticks which are used to perform intricate juggling tricks. Though this art form may have originated in China it's spread a great deal further than that, and learning how to perform these interesting tricks requires only that you learn how the art of Chinese juggling sticks functions, and that you're willing to practice with them often enough to really get the hang of it.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the two rubber (or rubber coated) sticks in hand. Hold them towards the base and make sure that your fingers have a strong grip, but that your wrists are relatively loose and able to react well.

    • 2

Place the third, tassled stick on the ground in front of you.

    • 3

Coax the tassled stick with the two sticks in your hand so that it's rising at an angle with one end still on the floor. You'll likely have to bend over for this.

    • 4

Rock the tassled stick back and forth with the two rubber sticks. Try and build up a rhythm so that your entire body finds a good cadence. Increase the rhythm slowly and steadily.

    • 5

Stand up slowly as the tassled stick continues to move between the other two. The friction between the rubber sticks and the tassled stick should cause it to lift as long as you keep tossing the tassled stick back and forth between the two rubber sticks. At this point you should be juggling the tassled stick back and forth in mid-air between the two rubber sticks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you've managed to keep the tassled stick up and juggling back and forth, you can then perform juggling "tricks." These can be learned from books, other jugglers or you can design them yourself.

  • Practice makes perfect. Learning Chinese juggling sticks requires lots of dedication and practice to become an expert.
