How to Start a Yard Cleanup Service
Yard clean up services can range from raking leaves to cleaning up pet excrement to more landscape-oriented tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming and winterizing lawn. Defining the growing season in the location of the proposed service will help define when the service will be in business as well as what tasks the service will offer.

1
Measure the square footage of a typical yard in the neighborhood. Call other lawn care services to see what they would charge for that yard. Divide the price by the square footage to figure out the going rate. Professional yard services charge by yard size and not by hour. Ask neighbors who use lawn care businesses what they pay. Use both sets of numbers to set a competitive price in the area.
-
2
Develop a policy or fee for challenging yards that have unique problems. Visit a prospective client's house before providing estimates to avoid surprises.
-
-
3
Fill out a business license application at city hall and open a bank account strictly for business use.
-
4
Print fliers or business cards complete with a business name and phone number and post them in public locations. Go door to door in neighborhoods on the weekends looking for prospective clients.
-
5
Schedule most service times during the week days, allowing weekends for a possible day off or as make-up time for inclement weather.
