As the name suggests, a Trojan Horse Virus is a harmful virus that disguises itself as a harmless program or application. Usually, a Trojan Horse Virus is spread through email attachments. However, a Trojan Horse Virus can also be spread through Internet chat software. Once your computer becomes infected with a Trojan Horse Virus, your personal information may be accessed by a remote hacker, your computer may slow and your computer’s Internet and desktop settings may be changed. The best way to erase a Trojan Horse Virus is to run your antivirus program. However, a Trojan Horse Virus can also be removed manually.

Instructions

  1. End Infected Processes

      Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

      Click on the "Task Manager" in the window that comes up and then click on the "Properties" tab.

      End all of the processes associated with the Trojan Horse Virus. To end a process, right-click on it and select "End Process." To determine if a process is associated with the Trojan Horse Virus, type the name of the process into the search box found at the Process Library.

    Delete Infected Files

      Click on the "Start" menu.

      Click on "Search Files and Folders." Or, if using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on "Search Programs and Files."

      Search for and delete all of the files associated with the Trojan Horse Virus. To delete a file, right-click on it and select "Delete." For a list of files associated with the Trojan Horse Virus, type the name of the Trojan Horse Virus into the search box found at the 411-Spyware website.

    Delete Infected DLL Files

      Click on the "Start" menu.

      Click on "Run." Or, if using Windows Vista and Windows 7, hold down the Windows key and press "R."

      Type "cmd" (without the quotation marks) into the open box and click "OK." The command prompt will open.

      Type "regsvr32 /u SampleDLLName.dll" into the command prompt and press ENTER. Note that "SampleDLLName" should be replaced with the name of the Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file associated with the Trojan Horse Virus. To find this information, type the name of the Trojan Horse Virus into the search box found at the 411-Spyware website.

    Delete Infected Registry Values

      Click on the "Start" menu.

      Click on "Run." Or, if using Windows Vista and Windows 7, hold down the Windows key and press "R."

      Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) into the open box and click "OK." The registry editor will open.

      Locate all of the registry values associated with the Trojan Horse Virus in the left pane of the registry editor and delete them. To delete a registry value, right-click on it and select "Delete." For a list of registry values associated with the Trojan Horse Virus, type the name of the Trojan Horse Virus into the search box found at the 411-Spyware website.
