This small, portable device certainly has some impressive specs, but if you are having some issues with its normal operation, there are some troubleshooting steps you can take to restore your PSP to working condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the PSP's battery is inserted properly. Press down on the battery release button on the right side of the PSP and then check to make sure the PSP logo is visible and right side up. If you do not see the PSP logo or it is upside down, the battery is inserted incorrectly.

Move away from other electronic devices. If you hear static or white noise when you use the PSP, there could be some electrical interference with the system. Move away from other electronic devices and then try again.

    • 3

Check the UMD disc for errors. The majority of PSP games are stored on UMD media, and unfortunately these discs are very fragile. Wipe the plastic surface with a soft cloth and gently rotate the metal disc inside and wipe it with the same cloth. Do not spray any water or cleaning liquid inside the disc's casing, as the moisture could get trapped and ruin the disc.

    • 4

Format your SD card. If you are having trouble saving a game file or digital content, restart the PSP and then enter the "Setup" utility. Find the "Format Memory Card" option and format the PSP card. If you have content from another device or computer on the card, you will want to back it up beforehand as the formatting process will get rid of all previous content.

    • 5

Make sure "power save" mode is not enabled. If you are trying to use online features, the power-save feature may inhibit you from receiving an optimum signal. Go into the "Settings" menu, find the "Power Save" option and select "Off".
