Instructions

  1. Build a Television Stand

    • 1

Decide on the television that is to be placed on the television stand. This first step is essential, because a TV stand that is too large will diminish the presence of the television, and a television that is too large for the stand could easily destabilize the stand, causing damage to the stand and the television. The dimensions of wood mentioned earlier are suggested for a 25- to 27-inch flat screen television. Generally though, it is possible to eyeball the required dimensions. Just look at the base of the television and create a tabletop and corresponding wood blocks that are at least 1.5 to two times the size.

    • 2

Place the sturdiest piece of wood at the base and create the frame for the stand around the base. The sturdiest piece of wood should be the base. With glue gun in hand, glue two sides to the base and then glue a third piece center-left of the base to provide stability. Follow the glue with a slew of screws connecting the base to the sides (at least one screw every 3 inches).

At this point there should be three vertical blocks (left, center-left and right). The center-left block is meant to provide stability for the tabletop and to provide space on the right side for shelves, which can later house other components of an entertainment system.

    • 3

Connect the tabletop of your choice. Either purchase the tabletop separately or use an additional well-sanded wood block. If you're using an additional wood block as the tabletop, then drill screws 3 inches apart and apply hot glue on the part of the tabletop connected to the three vertical standing blocks. At this point, the frame of the table should be complete, and you may build shelves into the stand if you so desire. After connecting the tabletop with the base, decorate and varnish the table to your liking.

    • 4

Test the table with an amount of weight at least 50 to 60 lbs. greater than that of the television. One never knows whether a guest will lean on the television on the stand, and it is essential that the stand can support weight in addition to the television.
