How Do I Become an OSHA Instructor?
In the workplace, there are sometimes jobs that are very risky and can put your life or another employee's life at risk. Because of this, there are people known as OSHA Instructors who teach workers how to be safe on the job. Becoming an OSHA instructor is not difficult, but it does require some schooling.

Becoming an OSHA Instructor
-
1
Depending on the type of OSHA instructor you want to be, you need five years of experience in either construction or general safety. If you have a college degree in occupational safety, you can subtract two years from the required experience.
-
2
Attend a basic class on either construction or general industry safety known as either course #500 or #501 respectfully. These courses each last a week and will enable you to teach the 10- or 30-hour OSHA-training classes.
-
-
3
Begin providing training for people in OSHA regulations and procedures. The completion of the OSHA course requires four years of uninterrupted training.
-
4
Renew your license before the end of the fourth year. There are two courses for this depending on which type of license you possess. Course #502 is the update for construction industry outreach trainers, and course #503 is the update for general industry outreach trainers.
-
5
Continue to update your license every four years by taking the necessary renew course. This is a requirement to remain a licensed OSHA instructor.
