Instructions

    • 1

Dig several shovelfuls of soil from your selected location to ensure that it is loose, not hard and compact. Pansies do best in well-drained soil. The location will also need to receive full sun or only partial shade for the majority of the day.

    • 2

Dig holes at least 6 inches apart, each large enough to hold the roots of one pansy plant with several inches of space on all sides.

    • 3

Place a pansy plant in each hole and cover the roots loosely with soil. Do not pat the soil down firmly, as this will impede drainage.

    • 4

Water the plants deeply, soaking the soil with several inches of water to get to all the roots.

Tips & Warnings

  • The best time to transplant pansies is after the last frost of the year in your area.

  • Do not bury the stems of the plant, only the roots. Soil-covered stems can lead to rot in your pansy plant.
