A card reader and writer is a device that plugs into a computer with a USB port and allows you to read and write a variety of memory cards. Depending on the type of card reader and writer you have, you can read and write one to 12 memory cards, from SD and mini-SD cards to PSP memory sticks. It is a handy computer peripheral if you use a lot of devices with different kinds of memory cards.

Instructions

  1. Mac OS X

    • 1

      Plug the card reader and writer into your Mac computer's USB port.

    • 2

      Insert a memory card into the card reader and writer's slot. An icon with the card's name will mount on your desktop.

      Open the card's icon on your desktop and remove files from it or place files on it.

    • 4

      Drag the card's icon into the trash and pull the card out of the card reader when you are done.

    Windows

    • 5

      Plug the card reader and writer into your Windows computer's USB port.

      Insert a memory card into the card reader and writer's slot. Explorer will open automatically.

      Double click on the disk image titled "Removable Disk." The title will have a letter after it.

    • 8

      Remove files from the disk or place files on the disk.

    • 9

      Left click on the "Remove Hardware" icon in the System Tray and select "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device - Removable Disk" with the name of your disk on it. Remove the card from the card reader and writer.
