A tow bar is a device that is used when a motorhome needs to tow a a vehicle out on the road. You can use a tow bar to tow many types of vehicles, including small SUVs. To use a tow bar, you must install two pieces: The tow bar base, on the vehicle, and the tow bar, on the motorhome or trailer.

Instructions

  1. Fit Tow Bar Base to Vehicle

    • 1

      Remove the tow hooks from the front of the vehicle, if your vehicle is equipped with them.

      Install the mounting bracket into the front bumper of the vehicle. Secure the mounting bracket into the sockets that are used for the tow hooks.

      Attach tow bar base and the safety plates to the mounting bracket. Insert the 1/2 inch by 1 ½ inch bolts into the bolt holes. Tighten, by hand, lock washers on the back side of the bolts.

      Go back and tighten all of the lock washers on the bolts with the socket wrench.

    Fit Tow Bar to Motorhome

      Insert the end of the tow bar into the receiver on the back of the motorhome.

      Align the pin holes on the receiver with the tow bar and then insert the hitch pin.

      Place a pin clip or cotter pin into the pin hole that is in the hitch pin.

      Lift the arms of the tow bar into a vertical position and then lower them towards the ground to connect them to the tow bar base.

      Lift the arms of the tow bar into a vertical position and then lower them towards the ground to connect them to the tow bar base.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you fail to use the pin clip with the hitch pin, the tow bar will not stay secured to the receiver on the motorhome .
