Instructions

    • 1

Check the cable connection running from the hardware to the computer such as a printer or scanner. If the cable isn't inserted properly the data flow is not going to reach the hardware, rendering it useless.

    • 2

Look at the user manual for the hardware to determine if it is compatible with your current operating system. If you have an older device and running a newer operating system the system may not support it without a driver upgrade

    • 3

Install the driver for your hardware. All hardware that requires a driver comes with a driver installation CD. Without the installed driver the computer does not know how to function with the device. After you insert the driver into the computer, a driver installation wizard loads onto the screen. Click "Next," then leave the installation name and location as the default settings, then click "OK" to install the driver. Restart the computer. The hardware should function properly now.

Launch your Internet browser if you need to download an upgraded driver. Older content needs an upgraded driver in order to function with the computer. Navigate to the hardware's manufacturing site, then select "Support," followed by "Downloads and Drivers." Choose the make and model of your hardware device, then click "Download" to download the hardware driver for your operating system. Once downloaded double-click the downloaded filed and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
