How to Make Your Own Parts Degreaser

Items get greasy. It’s a part of life. Some items need grease to function, while for others, too much or even any grease can be ruinous. Making your own parts degreaser at home is very simple. Not only is a homemade degreaser easy to make, it will save you money as well. It is important to remember when making and using a degreaser that some of the ingredients can damage your skin. Things You'll Need

  • Gloves
  • Washing soda
  • 1 gallon of water
  • Bucket
  • Scrub brush

Instructions

      Put on protective gloves.

      Pour 1/4 cup of washing soda (also known as sodium carbonate or soda ash) into an empty bucket.

      Add 1 gallon of water to your bucket. Adding the water with a sink spray hose will help to mix the water and washing soda.

      Apply the mixture to the greasy item or part. Depending on the part, you may spray the mixture onto the greasy area, dip the part into the bucket or pour the mixture over the part.

      Scrub the part with a scrub brush if necessary to remove all of the grease.

      Rinse the degreaser away with clean water and allow the item to air dry.

  • You can purchase washing soda at most supermarkets.

  • Washing soda, powdered detergent and baking soda are all different products that consumers often confuse. Make sure that you are using washing soda to make the degreaser.

  • Washing soda can irritate and even burn your skin.
