How to Recover Deleted Files Format

Formatting your computer's hard drive is the process of wiping clean the entire drive and laying the foundation for a new file system. To recover files from before formatting, use the DOS undelete utility, which will scan your drive for recoverable files.

Things You'll Need

• DOS boot CD

Instructions

1. Insert the DOS boot CD into the computer.

2. Restart the PC and press any key to boot into DOS.

3. Type in "d:undelete /list" and press "Enter" to display a list of salvageable files.

4. Type in "undelete c:filename" and press "Enter," replacing "filename" with the name of the file to be recovered.
