Fortunately, creating a transparent rectangle in Photoshop is a quick task once you understand the correct steps.

Step 1

Open your image file in Adobe Photoshop.

Click "Layer" in the top menu, select "New" and choose "Layer" to create a new layer for the rectangle.

Select the "Rectangular Marquee" tool (icon of rectangle with dashed border).

Click and drag within the image until the rectangle reaches your desired size. Release your click to hold the shape.

Click "Edit" in the top menu and select "Stroke."

Enter your desired line width and color in the corresponding fields. Decide if you want the rectangle border applied to the inside, center or outside of your newly created shape.

Step 7

Click "OK." The transparent rectangle appears immediately.
