How to Change Music to Ringtones

Ringtones are among the most popular customization features offered on cell phones. Many people like to set their ringtones to their favorite tunes. Typically, ringtones of popular songs can be purchased from a ringtone download source. However, if you can't find a particular tune, music can be converted to ringtones with the appropriate software.

Things You'll Need

• Audio editing program
• Music

Instructions

1. Launch your audio editing program (See Resources for free audio editing programs). Open the music that you want to change to a ringtone inside the program by clicking "Open" and then navigating to the music on your computer hard drive and double-clicking on it.

2. Click on the image of the music file to set the beginning and ending markers around the clip of the music that you want to use for your ringtone.

3. Click "Save Selection As" and then name your ringtone and save it in the file format that is compatible with your cell phone.

Tips & Warnings

• Keep your ringtone length under 30 seconds because cell phones will not ring longer than that.

• Make sure that you save your ringtone in a ringtone format that is supported by your cell phone; otherwise, your ringtone will not work on your cell phone.
