How to Build a Platform Bed Using Pallets
The pallet-platform bed is a staple of college dorms nationwide and can be a quick-and-dirty furniture solution in any home. What it lacks in attractiveness, it makes up for in low expense and ease of assembly. Putting together a pallet-platform bed takes less than 10 minutes once you've acquired your components. Unless you use off-size pallets, you can build only one of these using a twin-size bed frame. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the mattress and box spring from your bed frame.
-
2
Lay the bed frame on its side.
-
-
3
Position one pallet on its side, with one open end facing toward the bed.
-
4
Slide the open end of the pallet over the legs of the bed frame, pushing it toward the bed until the legs won't go further into the pallet. Sometimes, this means the pallet will be flush with the bottom of the bed. Other times, movement will stop because of the internal structure of the pallet.
-
5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with the other pallet and the other set of legs.
-
6
Turn your bed back upright, now resting on the pallets.
-
7
Slide the platform bed so one end is against a wall. Pallet-platform beds are stable only when a wall lends extra support.

Tips & Warnings
You can upgrade the appearance of this project by sanding and painting the pallets before you mount the bed on them.
This arrangement is less stable than many platform beds. If it wobbles more than you're comfortable with, consider mounting it to a wall stud using an L-brace and some 3-inch wood screws.
