How to Select Computer Monitors
The purchase of a computer monitor is not a decision that should be taken lightly. You should never purchase the biggest monitor you can find just because it's the biggest monitor. You need to consider things like price, resolution, size, aspect ratio and more before you select a computer monitor. Keep in mind: the monitor you buy will be with you for the next several years, so you should get something that works for you.

1
Measure the space you have available on your computer desk. Don't just buy the biggest computer monitor you can find--use a tape measure or yardstick and measure the amount of space you have to work with. Then, select a computer monitor that fits into these dimensions.

2
Look at the resolution of any computer monitor you want to purchase. A resolution of 480i is what is known as "standard definition." This will be the cheapest type of computer monitor. A resolution of 720p is known as "high definition," and will cost a little more money than a 480i monitor. A resolution of 1080p is known as "true high definition" and is the most expensive kind of monitor you can buy. It will also, however, be the one that gives you the best picture quality.

Look at the video inputs on your computer monitor. Some computer monitors are designed purely to be used as computer monitors. Others can also be used as fully functional television sets or be used to connect things like DVD players or Blu-Ray players to your computer setup.

4
Look at a side-by-side comparison of any computer monitor you're thinking of purchasing. Stores like Best Buy or Staples typically have dozens of different computer monitors all setup along side each other. These monitors are all different sizes, resolutions and made by different manufacturers, but all display the exact same image. This allows you to see each monitor in action and select the one that looks the best to your eyes--at a price you can afford.
