How Do I Set Up Yahoo! Messenger to Make PC-to-Phone Calls?
PC-to-phone calls can be made using Yahoo Instant Messenger after the user has successfully set up a Yahoo Voice account and has attached that account to her Yahoo Messenger application. It should be noted that a pay-per-minute charge is applied when using the program. PC-to-phone calls are available for both Windows-based PCs and Mac platforms.

Visit mail.yahoo.com and click on the "sign up" link to establish a Yahoo account (it is free). Fill in your name, date of birth, security questions and other requested information found on the single form. This account will be used to log into Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Voice services, both of which are required.

Download the Yahoo Messenger application from messenger.yahoo.com. Simply click on "Download Now" and save the program to your desktop. Next, click on the icon to install the application. Continue to click on "Next" until the entire application is installed. Yahoo will guide you through the process for your specific operating system. Do not launch the application at this time.

Visit the official Yahoo Voice website (See the References section for link) and click on the "Sign Up Now" link, located at the top of the page, to be begin setting up the account. Choose the amount of money you would like to deposit into your new account.

Sign into your Yahoo account with your regular username and password. The Yahoo sign-in page will appear once you complete step 1. You can also sign up for a new account at this time, without interrupting the process.

Enter your payment method information when prompted (directly after the Yahoo account sign-in screen).

Launch the Yahoo Messenger application. Mac users can go to "Applications" and then to "Yahoo Messenger," while PC users can go to "Start" then to "Programs," and finally to "Yahoo Messenger."

Type in the phone number you want to dial, including the area code (dial the area code even in your own area) right into the text box at the top of the application. You can also click on the "Call" button (picture of a phone) and choose a name from your address book, if a phone number is included with that contact.

Wait for the ring sound, just as you would do with a typical phone. Begin speaking when the other person "picks up."

Tips & Warnings
Clicking on the drop-box arrow will allow you to redial the last few numbers that you have called. The program will also complete the phone number field for past dialed phone numbers after entering the initial digits.
911 calls are not yet supported by Yahoo PC-to-phone service.
