How to Clean a Slow PC
Over time a PC can become slow. The most common cause is the build-up of temporary files, which are created by your computer automatically. Websites store files on your computer and can eventually clutter it. Viruses and malware may also cause your PC to run slower than normal and should be removed as soon as possible. Even with the best care, a computer can become slow over time, due to insufficient RAM.

Restart your computer. This is the quickest and easiest way to empty the cache of temporary files stored by your computer. If you haven't turned your computer off in a while, you should notice an increased speed when it boots back up.
-
2
Log onto the Windows Live OneCare Clean Up Center (see Resources section) and click the "Clean Up Scan" button. This will automatically scan your computer for temporary files, viruses and fragmented files.

3
Read the virus report pop-up window. If the scanner reports any viruses, click "Remove." The scanner will attempt to remove the files or instruct you on the next step you should take. Click "Next."
-
4
Select which temporary or unnecessary files you wish to delete from the files pop-up window. Click "Next" and the scanner will automatically delete the files.
-
5
Read the fragmentation report. If the drive is more than 10 percent fragmented, the scanner will prompt you to defrag. Select "Yes" and allow the scanner to defrag your hard drive.
